A recent paper by Graupera and colleagues describes the predominant role of the p110α subunit of PI3K in developmental angiogenesis and vascular remodeling. The requirement for p110α is cell-autonomous and essential for the formation of blood vessels. The activation of p110α was linked to upstream input from VEGFR, shown to control endothelial cell migration, and associated with the activity of RhoA.
