Types of Scientific Correspondence

Reviews are normally invited from leading authorities in their respective fields. Published reviews fall into four broad categories, namely commentaries (short reviews usually pertaining to a recent development or publication of outstanding interest), featured reviews (more extensive reviews of general interest), technology reviews, and introductory reviews (reviews written by young investigators of promise). Invited reviews are read by a journal editor, and are routinely accepted subject to minor revisions. Unsolicited reviews may be accepted for review, but are not guaranteed to be accepted.
Regular Papers may be submitted as articles (up to 12 figures plus text), reports (up to 8 figures), progress reports (up to 4 figures), bulletins (1-2 figures) or as correspondence (0-2 figures). This is intended to provide a flexible level of publication for all manner of scientific correspondence, from thesis papers (e.g. articles) to on-going research with periodic substantial progress (e.g. progress reports), or short dispatches describing incomplete but nonetheless intriguing findings (e.g bulletins). Scientific correspondence in support or contradiction of papers previously published will be welcomed, as debate is the engine of scientific advance. Such letters of debate, termed "scientific correspondence", will be short and may include a figure.
